  5. !SimNet requires an Archimedes with 2MB or more memory. It can 
  6. run on either a client station or the server machine itself. It is 
  7. recommended that it is run on the server, particularly if large 
  8. password files are involved. Optimisations are used to increase 
  9. performance if the password file is recognised to be present on 
  10. local hard disk.

  12. !SimNet maintains the password file structure employed by the 
  13. Acorn Level 4 File Server. It also uses the File Server Manager 
  14. protocol to read and write password information when run on a 
  15. client station. !SimNet will only run with RISCOS3.1 or later 
  16. versions.

  18. !SimNet is unprotected on the distribution master disk. Make a 
  19. copy of this disk for security reasons now. Note that the copyright 
  20. on the software disallows you from duplicating the disk for any 
  21. other reason. The Master disk will contain two files:

  23.     !SimNet    − the application
  24.     README    − update notes
  25.  
  26. The file README is a text file which describes any enhancements 
  27. or differences in the latest version of the program compared to the 
  28. information in this manual. Read this first by double clicking on the 
  29. file in a directory viewer. An Edit window will appear allowing the 
  30. file contents to be browsed through.

  32. !SimNet is the application itself and you would normally install it in 
  33. a convenient location on a server hard disk. To install, choose the 
  34. target directory and then simply ‘drag’ the application from the 
  35. Master floppy disk to the target.

  37. To start !SimNet double click on its icon in the target directory 
  38. viewer. The application will load into memory and its icon will 
  39. appear on the icon bar, as shown in the picture opposite. Click 
  40. with SELECT on the icon to make the Control Panel (CP) appear.
